Another example of McCann doing worldclass work, wait that’s a lie.

Business Uninterrupted is the laziest, most mind numbing new project I’ve seen today. And it’s been a busy day. They have 5 overacting baboons characters that express dissatisfaction over the 5 of the most common problems with technology. The Blamer says something about having a bad wireless signal and gets other people to solve his problem instead of moving his ass elsewhere. I think the actor was making fun of media types but I’ve never seen one make a tiger claw pose to try to underline the point they were making. Either way, I didn’t stay long enough to find out.

Bottom line: A small Turkish woman could craft a better campaign from recycled coke bottles and perogies.

Creating a powerful idea for an engaging brand can be one of the best parts of the job.

But clients and bosses alike often fall into the trap of pandering to the middle; ie. dumbing down the message so more people can understand it. By capturing a larger market with your message, you stand a better chance of increasing sales. Makes sense right?

But I would argue that giving your message a case of retardation means that you are only attracting dumb customers. Customers who jump from brand to brand as the fads come and go.

Promoting a strong, smart message attracts smart customers. The kind of customers you want to have. The kind that are loyal, spend money and help promote your brand for you. (Apple anyone?)
