Atlantic Hyundai Sonata-gate

2010 Hyundai Sonata from Atlantic Hyundai | The Bottom Rung

Ever heard of Atlantic Hyundai from West Islip, New York? Neither had I until the ad above popped into my Google Reader last week.

According to Autoblog, an overworked newspaper editor accidentally added a fake concept image of a 2011 Hyundai Sonata to a dealer ad for a 2010 Hyunday Sonata that they simply google searched. And at just $13, 595, that’s a hell of a deal for a car that has yet to be released, or even seen.

For some reason though, Sam’s post on Autoblog spurred me to dig a little deeper. After a few short minutes of surfing, not only did I find the web version of the very same ad here (update: they have since taken it down, but the screen grab is here)but I also got in contact with Eve Morrow at the dealership to confirm.

Statement from the dealership regarding the ad:

The 2010 Sonata looks the same as the 2009 on the website. Hyundai did not change the looks from 2010 to 2009. The picture in the ad is old.

We do have the 2010 Sonata GLS in stock and available.  When would you like to come in a see it?

Seems someone doesn’t know their sonatas from their fake-concept sonatas. This is a textbook case of the quality of the ad being a direct representation of the quality of the dealership.

To my readers in New York state, don’t visit Atlantic Hyundai. Since discussing the ad with Eve, I have been unceremoniously added to their spam list which includes daily emails from Ms. Morrow. If you want a piece of shit Hyundai, you should go to Canada anywhere but there!
