Thank god for the Recession

Black & White Handshake | The Bottom Rung

I get it, we’re in a recession. Watching the news for any length of time will make this blatantly obvious. Everybody is talking about it and almost everyone is affected by it. Still, everyone is missing the point.

This recession is the single greatest opportunity since the last recession in the 90s.

Everything is cheap

Warren Buffet bought an RV company when we first got into this mess. He did so because they were cash rich but their sales were at their lowest point in the company’s existence. Oh, and they were for sale for pennies on the dollar. RV sales will keep pace with the economy as it rises again and Buffet will be there to collect his windfall.

Even if you’re not Mr. Buffet, you’re still in luck. Everything is on sale, housing prices are plummeting and some people are just giving it all away. You know you can pick up a house in Chicago for under $5,000.00? Or for $20,000.00 in Arizona? If you have the ability to buy it and sit on it for 10 years, you’re making a greater investment than the stock market could ever provide.

It’s a buyers market

Nobody is buying so it’s a buyers market. Stocks, housing, commodities, precious metals, small caps, large caps, banks, currencies…the list goes on. Everything is a steal as it can only go up.

This is also a great time to get the most out of what you already have. Call your ISP every month and ask for a lower rate. People from all over are reporting positive results from just asking for a break on their bills. It’s a great time to squeeze your supplies for more results from the same investment. Hell, squeeze your ad agency and they won’t miss a beat. While they may complain, everyone knows they’re pitching everything in site just to keep the lights on.

Those who get in early, win

The best venture capitalists know when success is imminent before anyone else. The smartest people on our continent (and some of the lucky ones too) will make large investments in the opportunities they find before anyone else does. Anyone can start to invest again once they know the recession is over. The really bright people will invest before it is deemed to be over because they know their investments will succeed with or without the recession.

The Bottom Line: It is better to start making your moves throughout the bottom of the curve as you’ll be the first to be rewarded on the upswing. Don’t let the news media get you down, every recession comes with a silver lining.
