Beck’s hires rad blogger, still same beer

The Daily Different | The Bottom Rung

Proving yet again that adding a blog to your agency presentation is an easy way to appear hip and in-the-know, Becks has started up a blog called The Daily Different. And no, the picture above is not from the bio of my favourite male model’s fan page (although his bio does reference a gay club called ‘Prik’), it’s actually a picture of the blog’s only lead writer, Darius.

I won’t mention the fact that it’s a flash blog (which never works) or the fact that the writing style a little too aloof for my tastes.

I will however applaud the ghostwriter of this blog for nailing their target market. Mentioning GTA Vice City, Piracy, Flight of the Concords and even VLC Media Player in Darius’ likes paragraph. Very interesting insights into their target market, specifically VLC, which any nerd will know is the god of all movie players. …So nerds drink Beck’s?

Other than that, it’s interesting for a few moments but you most likely won’t be back.

Oh, and I’ve invited Darius to defend his honour. I’d link to it, but the site is infuriating. You’ll have to take my word on my it, it was pretty ballsy.

    Angus,

Thank you for the kind invite to defend my honour – ooo I feel a bit like Desdemona from Othello when you refer to me that way… cheeky! I also want to thank you for checking out the Daily Different but more importantly thank you for referring to me as “rad” and intimating that I could be a male model. Genius! Thanks, you made my day. Not even my own mum would have paid me a compliment like that.

Now addressing some of your more serious points I do want to state for the record that I completely agree with you about the issues with flash, however I have no influence over the design of the website. With regards to my writing style being aloof, hey that’s me, it’s different it’s not for everyone but then that is why I was chosen to be the writer. You mention our target audience and my use of a ghostwriter; alas I don’t have one so I will happily take your applause. I really do like VLC media player, it’s the daddy of all video players.

Everything you read on the site is written by me on a daily basis in my own words with what I hope is interesting and unique content I am not dictated to by Beck’s and have never been told what I can and can not say – which is to Beck’s credit. Beck’s want to have an interesting website for their target audience, which I am a part of and they have given me a platform to show what I can do. I hope it does not come across as a ‘corporate blog’ trying to push Beck’s as I have been very staunch in my view of Daily Different being about interesting funny content and engaging with other like minded people, not necessarily Beck’s drinkers.

This is a bit long but I wanted to be thorough in answering you, I hope you and your readers can put our mutual hatred for flash behind us and come and support the site.

    Darius
