Gateway has the right idea

It’s about time somebody decided to start making laptops that don’t suck, visually. Apple has been doing it for years and the rest of the industry is finally catching up. They have been churning out iPods, iMacs and Macbook Pros while Dell has the XPS and the Inspiron. Not exactly the most jaw dropping pieces of equipment ever to grace the desks of corporate America to say the least.
Now Dell and companies like it are watching their market shares fall (well…Dell has bigger problems than just design). And they are slowly wisening up to the fact that their wares have to look good in order to sell. Their consumers are watching everything going on in the mac world right now and are being vain about their own computers. While there are many people so viamently against the OS X operating system that they will never switch, many of their clients are not so loyal to good ol’ XP. (Vista isn’t yet worthy of a mention until it hits Service Pack 2)
Dell’s answer to the design problem is to throw some paint at their slightly freshened laptops and produce a new campaign.

Gateway One
The point of this post is just to mention that I am seriously impressed that computer companies are starting to recognize the importance of design and are preparing take on Apple head on, even if Microsoft’s new operating system is crap. The next few years will be an interesting time for the computer industry. I, for one, can’t wait!!!
UPDATE: According to Engadget, the Gateway One is now officially official.
